The United Arab Emirates has announced a two-month extension to its amnesty program for visa violators, giving individuals until December 31, 2024, to rectify their residency status without penalties. This decision, made by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP), aligns with the UAEโs upcoming 53rd Union Day celebrations and aims to uphold the country’s humanitarian values.
Originally launched on September 1 with an initial deadline of October 31, the amnesty program was designed to help visa violators either leave the UAE or secure employment and update their residency status.
According to Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director-General of the ICP, this extension represents the final opportunity for individuals to regularize their situation without facing fines or an entry ban. He emphasized that once the grace period concludes, the ICP, in collaboration with other government partners, will increase inspections and enforce legal actions against those remaining in violation.
This extension comes as a welcome relief for residents facing challenges in meeting the previous deadline. Extending the UAE visa grace period enables more individuals to comply with UAE immigration policies while avoiding penalties. The decision also showcases the countryโs ongoing commitment to addressing humanitarian concerns, particularly for those seeking stability within the UAE.
Immigration experts have lauded the UAE’s decision, noting that the extension helps ease the transition for violators hoping to rectify their status. “Itโs a pragmatic approach that benefits both the government and residents,โ commented an immigration consultant based in Dubai. Similar amnesty schemes have proven effective in the past, allowing residents to adjust their legal status and avoid future complications.
